The Government of the Russian Federation, by its decision, prohibited the import of foreign satellite stations into Russia.
in documentThe protocol signed on April 29 states that it is impossible to import “radio-electronic equipment intended for the transmission and (or) reception of radio waves from space communications objects (communication satellites, including dual-use satellites) into the country… without a decision of the State Commission on Radio Frequencies on the allocation of radio frequency bands.”
Starlink satellite Internet communications terminals, produced by Elon Musk’s American company SpaceX, fit this formula.
The Starlink satellite communications network is actively used by the Ukrainian military, which opposes the Russian armed forces. The Russian military also used the Starlink system, but in February satellite communications stations were shut down en masse at the front. The stations entered Russia illegally through third countries.
In March, Russia launched satellites for the Rasvet system, which is called the Starlink counterpart.
