Apple may have violated antitrust laws because of Telega

The American company Apple could violate antitrust laws by taking measures against user modification of the Telegram messenger called Telega. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) announced this on Wednesday, April 22.

FAS representatives noted that they could take antitrust measures if the law was actually violated. They also pointed to the rejection of versions of a Kaspersky Lab application in the App Store, which led to a case in 2019, a fine of 906 million rubles in 2020 for violation of the law by Apple, a case in 2021 and the recognition of the company as violating the Competition Protection Law in 2022, according to reports. On April 9, Telega disappeared from the Russian App Store. The platform’s press service explained this by a large number of negative comments due to the introduction of licensing waiting lists. On April 17, iOS began flagging the Telega app as malicious.
