Scientists from the PP Shirshov Institute of Oceanography of the Russian Academy of Sciences have proven that Lake Beloye in the Ryazan Region is the deepest body of water in the Central Federal District. This was reported on Tuesday, July 7 by the press service of the institute.
Based on the research results, it was found that the depth of the lake reaches 54 metres. This figure significantly exceeds the depth of Lake Glubokoye in the Moscow region, which was previously considered the deepest in central Russia and is about 31 meters deep.
In addition to studying the bottom topography, specialists carried out hydrological soundings and hydrochemical monitoring. During the expedition, scientists recorded a rare natural phenomenon associated with the mixing of water masses in the spring.
According to the researchers, this phenomenon served as a natural filter, which is of great interest for science and environmental monitoring. The institute expects to continue research and install hydrological equipment in the lake in early fall RIA Novosti.
Earlier, an expedition working on the shores of the Kola Bay in the Barents Sea discovered a new distributor of plastic causing serious harm to animals – herring seagulls. A large team of scientists from Moscow and Murmansk participated in the new study.
