What are the risks of eating raw fish?

Chinese scientists have discovered the ability of CMNV from marine and freshwater fish to transmit to humans. In severe cases, the disease can cause blindness. Alexander Frolov, Associate Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology at the RUDN Medical Institute, told us about dangerous viruses that can be transmitted to humans by eating seafood.

– This is a very relevant and wide-ranging topic. For example, opisthorchiasis is very common, which is caused by flat trematodes of the genus Opisthorchis (cat’s fluke). Infection occurs when eating untreated freshwater fish from the carp family – ide, bream, carp and others. The specialist pointed out that the parasites attack the bile ducts, liver and pancreas.

In addition, when eating fish, there is a high probability of contracting diphyllobothriasis. With the virus, the level of vitamin B12 in the body decreases, because the tapeworm actively absorbs it, transmitting it R.T.

Another common infection is anisakiasis. Larvae can be found not only in raw foods, but also in smoked foods. Parasites cause inflammatory processes in the stomach, intestines and other internal organs.

According to the specialist, in the case of seafood poisoning there is a high risk of infection with salmonella, E. coli and halophilic vibrios.

Frolov advises to closely monitor the condition of the body after eating fish. If you feel nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain, seek medical help immediately.

Ichthyologist and professor at the Institute of Biotechnology and Fisheries, Yuri Simakova, told a journalist of the newspaper Vechernyaya Moskva whether the new nodavirus could cause a pandemic.
