Russian private companies were allowed to purchase large-caliber weapons to protect against drones, including anti-aircraft artillery systems.

Private companies in Russia were allowed to purchase weapons and technical equipment of large caliber to protect against drone attacks. These are anti-aircraft artillery systems, turrets, radar equipment and electronic warfare systems, RBC reports, citing sources.

Previously, companies could only purchase “passive facility protection equipment” for their security guards, including small arms.

The authorities expect that the new rules adopted “at the state level” will enable the rapid provision of weapons and equipment to mobile fire brigades. They are formed from reservists, volunteers and employees of private institutions to protect civilian infrastructure from drones.

One RBC source claims that such groups “demonstrate high efficiency in intercepting aircraft-type drones.”

Topic of businessmen’s purchase of large-caliber weapons for protection against drones in a meeting with Vladimir Putin on May 26 discussion President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) and future trade ombudsman Alexander Shukhin. He spoke, among other things, of the need to agree on clear financing plans for such purchases.

According to RBC, mobile firefighting groups are now being formed in most regions of the European part of Russia. Their number began to increase after Ukrainian drones began to strike areas increasingly far from the front line.
