Moscow doctors performed a unique surgery on a pregnant patient in global practice

Moscow doctors performed a unique operation on a pregnant patient suffering from a rare aortic disease, and were able to save the lives of the mother and child. A woman was admitted to Yudin Hospital at 28 weeks of pregnancy with an aortic arch aneurysm, a condition that carries a very high risk of the aneurysm rupturing. This was announced by Moscow Deputy Mayor for Social Development Anastasia Rakova.

“Thanks to the coordinated actions of the multidisciplinary team of doctors, it was possible to stabilize the patient’s condition and maintain the pregnancy. In due time, she gave birth to a healthy girl,” Rakova said.

The specialists performed the patient’s hybrid prosthetic replacement procedure. In the first stage, surgeons created a bypass for blood flow using an artificial shunt, after which they installed a stent, eliminating the risk of aortic rupture. During the operation, the condition of the fetus was constantly monitored by doctors.

After the intervention, the woman’s condition remained stable. Two weeks later, she was discharged from the hospital under the supervision of specialists, and in the thirty-seventh week of pregnancy, the patient gave birth to a baby girl weighing 3,210 grams. Now the mother’s life and health are not in danger.

Moscow medicine has set itself an important goal – to form a conscious approach to future motherhood among residents of the capital and launched a free reproductive health support project called “I will become a mother.” Maria Byakhova, head of the Genetics Laboratory and laboratory geneticist at the Yudin City Clinical Hospital, told “Moscow Evening” about its importance.
